I often find that brides and grooms only know one question to ask, "What's your price?" which is a terrible way to pick quality entertainment. Here are some suggestions to assure that you will get the quality of entertainment that your event deserves.
When choosing a mobile DJ, be sure to ask some of the following questions:
- Do you belong to any DJ associations or clubs or do any networking with other DJs?
- What are the features included in your packages? What is not included?
- Will you meet to discuss music choices and other matters and do you take requests from guests?
- Will you adjust your volume to suit us and our guests if asked to do so?
- Do you own your own equipment and is it professional DJ equipment?
- Do you carry back-up equipment with you in case of equipment failure?
- What kind and amount of training/updating have you done in the last year?
- Do you carry liability insurance and can you supply me with proof?
- Will you be the person at my event? If not, can I meet with the DJ?
- How would you be attired at my event?
- Can you provide references?
- What type of events do you usually perform at?
- How much time do you allow for set-up?
- Do you provide a written contract?
- Do you have an office where we can meet? Can we meet both before and after booking you?
- What is your policy on alcohol?
Also, listen to how the person conducts themselves on the phone:
- Did they answer the phone in a professional manner?
- Are they excited about the possibility of performing at your event?
- Are they friendly and cooperative?
- Do they have a sense of humor?
Conduct some phone interviews, narrow the list down, and then have meetings with several DJs. Your entertainer's enthusiasm and passion for making your event truly successful is the single biggest piece of value which cannot be shown through a website.
